Oswald Chambers (1874–1917) was a Scottish evangelist and teacher best known for his devotional book My Utmost for His Highest. Born in Aberdeen, Scotland, he trained at the Royal College of Art in London before feeling called to Christian ministry. He studied theology at Dunoon College and became a prominent speaker with the Holiness Movement.
In 1910, Chambers founded the Bible Training College in London and focused on teaching and mentoring young Christian workers. During World War I, he served as a YMCA chaplain to British troops in Egypt, where he continued to preach and minister until his sudden death from complications following an appendectomy.
His wife, Gertrude “Biddy” Chambers, transcribed his talks and later compiled them into books, preserving his legacy. My Utmost for His Highest, published posthumously in 1927, remains a widely read devotional work.
