Leon Morris (1914–2006) was an Australian New Testament scholar and theologian, widely respected for his conservative evangelical stance and deep commitment to biblical scholarship. He was born in Lithgow, New South Wales, and educated at the University of Sydney and Cambridge University. Morris served as principal of Ridley College in Melbourne from 1964 to 1979, where he influenced a generation of pastors and theologians. He authored more than 50 books, including influential commentaries on the Gospel of John, Romans, and Revelation. His most well-known work, The Apostolic Preaching of the Cross (1955), offered a detailed defense of the doctrine of substitutionary atonement and remains a key text in evangelical theology. Morris combined scholarly rigor with a clear, readable style, making his work accessible to both academics and lay readers. His legacy continues in theological education and biblical interpretation within the evangelical tradition.
