Josh McDowell (born August 17, 1939) is an American Christian apologist, evangelist, and author. Raised in a difficult home environment marked by abuse and alcoholism, McDowell declared himself an agnostic as a young man. While attending Kellogg College in Michigan, he set out to disprove Christianity but instead became convinced of its truth. He later studied at Wheaton College and Talbot Theological Seminary.
McDowell is best known for his work with Campus Crusade for Christ (now Cru) and for writing influential books like Evidence That Demands a Verdict (1972) and More Than a Carpenter (1977). His writings focus on defending the historical reliability of the Bible and the truth of Jesus Christ. Over decades, McDowell has spoken to millions of students and audiences around the world, combining personal storytelling with apologetic arguments.
Today, he remains an active speaker and author, addressing topics like faith, relationships, and moral issues, often aimed at youth and families.
