James E. Faust

James E. Faust (1920–2007) was an American religious leader, lawyer, and politician, best known for serving as a member of the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). Born in Delta, Utah, Faust served as a missionary in Brazil before joining the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war, he earned a law degree from the University of Utah and practiced law in Salt Lake City. Faust was active in Democratic politics, serving in the Utah House of Representatives and on various state and national boards. He was called as a general authority of the LDS Church in 1972 and joined the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in 1978. In 1995, he became Second Counselor in the First Presidency under President Gordon B. Hinckley, a role he held until his death in 2007. Known for his calm demeanor and compassion, Faust often spoke about faith, service, and moral integrity.
