Elisabeth Elliot (1926–2015) was an American Christian author, speaker, and missionary known for her profound influence on Christian thought, particularly regarding faith, suffering, and missionary work. Born in Brussels, Belgium, and raised in the United States, she attended Wheaton College, where she met her first husband, Jim Elliot. In 1956, Jim was killed by the Huaorani people while attempting to evangelize them in Ecuador. Despite the tragedy, Elisabeth chose to live among the very tribe that had killed her husband, ministering to them and eventually witnessing their conversion to Christianity. She documented her experiences in several bestselling books, including Through Gates of Splendor and The Savage My Kinsman. Over her lifetime, she wrote over 20 books, addressing topics like forgiveness, trust in God, and Christian womanhood. She remarried twice, first to Addison Leitch and then to Lars Gren, and continued her ministry through writing, speaking, and radio broadcasts until her death in 2015.
