D. Elton Trueblood was a distinguished Quaker theologian, philosopher, and educator whose life spanned most of the 20th century (1900–1994). He served as professor and chaplain at several leading institutions, including Earlham College, Stanford University, and Harvard University. Trueblood was a prolific author, writing more than 30 books on religion, philosophy, and society, including The Predicament of Modern Man and The Incendiary Fellowship. Deeply committed to Christian discipleship and moral leadership, he also founded the Yokefellows movement, which fostered spiritual discipline and community among believers. Trueblood’s legacy includes his role in shaping public theological discourse during and after World War II and his advisory role to several U.S. presidents.
