Amy Carmichael (1867–1951) was a Christian missionary and writer born in Northern Ireland. In 1895, she sailed to India, where she spent the rest of her life serving among the marginalized. She founded the Dohnavur Fellowship, a sanctuary for children—especially girls—rescued from temple prostitution. Carmichael was deeply committed to her work, famously refusing to return home for over five decades. Her writings, which include more than 35 books, reflect her devotion, struggles, and unwavering faith. Despite a severe injury later in life that left her mostly bedridden, she continued to write and lead. Amy Carmichael’s legacy endures through her literary works and the continuing mission of the Dohnavur Fellowship.
